Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project

Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project's Local food Campaign - celebrating fresh locally produced food grown by our Local Food Guidefarming neighbors on their family farms throughout western North Carolina and the southern Appalachians.

The Buy Appalachian Local Food Campaign promotes locally grown and raised foods so that you may..
  • Eat fresher, better tasting, and healthier foods.
  • Help your farming neighbors stay in business and preserve the family values of rural communities.
  • Protect the natural beauty of these mountains by preserving farmland.
  • Encourage sustainable agriculture to keep your farming neighbors farming and your plant and animal neighbors alive in good health.
  • Strengthen the local economy by supporting local, family farmers with your hard earned food dollars and by keeping the mountains beautiful so that visitors will come and support your businesses.

Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project is now formalizing the participation of growers, area restaurants, grocery stores, caterers, and tailgate markets in the campaign.

Ask restaurants where they get the food they serve and grocery stores where they get their produce. If it wasn't grown locally, let them know you value freshness, good taste and local family farms. You are invited to join in by visiting the Local Food Guide and locating participating grocery stores, eating at participating restaurants, shopping at tailgate markets, joining a CSA, or visiting other businesses listed in the Guide.
