Fresh Produce Safety Trainings

The Thursday, July 24th training will proceed as scheduled.

On Thursday, July 24 th, farmers are invited to attend training sessions on fresh produce safety. The training sessions will provide information on the general practices that growers, field workers, and packers of fresh fruits and vegetables should use to handle fresh produce safely, reduce the potential for outbreaks of food-borne illnesses, and address the risks associated with the movement of fresh produce into the marketplace. “Good Agricultural Practices” (GAP) and “Good Handling Practices” (GHP) food safety certification audit demonstrations will be conducted at a farm and a packing facility. An audit will be conducted by a third party auditor with the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association.

Thursday, July 24 th

Where: Seasonal Produce Farm (from there participants will travel to Johnson’s Packing House)  - Canton

When: 1:30 - 5:30p.m. ( Check-in begins at 1:00p.m.)

Who should attend: Farmers and agricultural professionals that want to learn about food safety procedures for produce that moves from the farm through a packing facility or through other forms of wholesalemarkets

Directions: From Canton, take Hwy 110 south for 3.5 miles to the corn maze. From the corn maze, go another ¼ mile to the field on the right at the intersection of NC Hwy 110 & Martin Rd

From Interstate 40, take Exit 31 & take 215 south to Canton. 215 will bear to the right after the Subway Restaurant. At the stoplight, turn left. At the 4 th light turn right on Hwy 110 south. Go 3.5 miles to the corn maze. From the corn maze, go another ¼ mile to the field on the right at the intersection of NC Hwy 110 & Martin Rd.
