Local. A tasty celebration of food from local farms,
brought from farm to table by talented local chefs.
Great restaurants
in the southern Appalachians buy the freshest, most flavorful food
from farms right here at home.
If you are looking
for a place to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner in Asheville, Hendersonville,
the High Country, or anywhere else in the
North Carolina mountains, ask for Appalachian Grown.
Each month this summer
and fall, we will be celebrating the changing seasons by focusing as
a community on one great locally grown ingredient. Our focus for August
is tomatoes. These mountains are known for great vine-ripe slicing
tomatoes grown on a commercial scale, as well as every hue and shape
of heirloom, widely available at farmers' tailgate markets and celebrated
by chefs. Greenhouse tomatoes and fried green tomatoes start in spring,
with vine-ripe tomatoes available locally through October or November.

tomatoes around.
