SUMMARY:Spring Plant Shows at MR Gardens
DESCRIPTION:M R Gardens’ sustainable nursery hosts open houses\, showcasing our native wildflowers\, groundcovers\, herbs\, vegetable seedlings and more. For spring 2022\, plant shows are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on select Thursdays through Sundays: \n\nMarch 17 to 20\nApril 7 to 10\nApril 14 to 17\nMay 12 to 15\nJune 2 to 5\n\nFind M R Gardens at 441 Onteora Blvd.\, Asheville. Look for the green sign. The event is typically outdoors. \nView the available varieties at nativeplantsasheville.com. Customers are also encouraged to order plants online and pick them up at an arranged time\, regardless if the nursery is open to the public that day. Customers also have the option of contacting megan@mrgardens.net to order plants. Or leave a voicemail at 828.333.4151. \nM R Gardens focuses on pollinator plants and other species that benefit the ecosystem\, and aims to propagate plants in the most sustainable way possible. The nursery’s passive solar greenhouse requires no extra heat other than solar gain in winter. The roof is also slanted at just the right angle to keep it from overheating so that large exhaust fans are not needed. M R Gardens uses renewable resources in its potting soil and encourages customers to wash and return their plastic pots\, which are sanitized and reused. Plants are grown on a small scale so that individual attention is given to plants\, ensuring high quality.

SUMMARY:The Making of a Meadow for Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to open our historic Echo Hill Farm to the public for the very first time to host “The Making of a Meadow for Pollinators”. This Pollinator Month Awareness event\, coordinated with the help of Hendersonville Bee City USA\, will focus on our efforts to transition our farm to a more ecologically friendly\, sustainable\, and ultimately more beautiful model. \nJoin us\, and together we will explore our emerging meadow reconstruction\, growing more abundant with life every day. We’ll look for natives\, and identify problematic invasives. \nMeet David Foti of Sandy Bee Mine Honey Company (www.sandybeemine.com) and learn about beekeeping\, enjoy a local honey tasting\, and see bees in action through a glass-walled exhibition hive! \nSay hello to our mischievous little herd of Pygora fiber goats\, and see if you can catch a glimpse of our heritage Lincoln Longwool ewes (so sweet\, but very shy). Echoview Fiber Mill (www.echoviewnc.com) will be joining us for the day to showcase their fine clothing\, yarn\, accessories and gifts. We’ve admired Echoview Fiber Mill’s philosophy for years and we are thrilled and honored they will be a part of this awareness event. \nIn the New York Times Bestseller\, Nature’s Best Hope\, renowned entomologist\, ecologist and conservationist\, Douglas Tallamy challenges all of us to realize that conservation starts in your own yard. We’ll explore some ideas with the help of Snow Creek Landscaping. Snow Creek is on the cutting edge of green landscape and design here in Western North Carolina. Tim Boone\, President of Snow Creek\, has been recognized by documentarian Catherine Zimmerman of The Meadow Project (www.themeadowproject.com). Tim’s knowledge of native pants and ecosystems stems from his childhood\, growing up right here in the mountains. \nScreenings of Catherine’s documentary\, Hometown Habitat – Stories of Bringing Nature Home\, will be held at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and the sweet harmonies of local musicians Sunlight Drive Acoustic Duo will keep us all singing from 11 s.m.to 2 p.m. \nWe’re thrilled with the level of response to this event and we’ll continue to expand the scope as best we can accommodate\, but for now\, let me just say thank you to The Meadow Project\, Sandy Bee Mine Honey Company\, Echoview Fiber Mill\, Bullington Gardens\, Bee City USA\, Bridgeside Books\, HomeSource Builders\, eARThly Minds Gallery\, Brew Naturals Elderberry Syrup\, Imladris Farm\, Sunlight Drive Acoustic Duo\, HomeTrust Bank\, VETS- Veterans Engaging Through Service\, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Volunteers in Partnership\, and all our friends and volunteers. \nSee you all in the meadow!

SUMMARY:2022 NC Foothills Farm Tour
DESCRIPTION:The NC Foothills Farm Tour is back with a fantastic lineup on June 25th\, 2022. The event is open to everyone and will feature six locations throughout Polk and Rutherford counties. The June farm tour is self-guided\, so you can look into all of the options ahead of time and decide where you want to visit based on your interests. On your visit producers will share their passion and knowledge for as long as you’d like. \nTickets are sold per vehicle on Eventbrite\, so you only need one for your whole car. More information and the link to tickets can be found at www.ncfoothillsfarmtour.com. We can’t wait to see you\, your family\, and friends supporting our local food producers and community builders. \nLearn more\, check out the locations that you’ll be able to visit\, order tickets through our website\, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram @ncfoothillsfarmtour. \nWe are also looking for volunteers to help out with the farm tour on the day of the event. We ask volunteers to work for a half-day\, and then receive a free ticket to participate in the tour for the other half of the day. If you are interested in volunteering\, please contact us at info@ncfoothillsfarmtour.com. \nDo you want to go on a farm tour but don’t think you’ll be able to make the June 25th date? Stay tuned for more information about our October 15th event\, which will be structured as a small group tour with in-depth looks at other farms in Polk and Rutherford counties. \nThe October tour will be more structured and scheduled ahead of time\, rather than the style of choosing your own adventure that the June event will feature. \nOne of our favorite aspects of visiting a farm is getting to spend some time with the farmers themselves\, and really getting a close-up view of how their farm operations work. It’s all about the community connections we make. \nAnd so for 2022\, we are offering more ways to learn\, share\, and engage with your local farms. \nTickets are now available.
