There’s a story behind the foods we eat. The rolling hills, fertile fields, and especially the people who produce our food create a narrative of life in the Southern Appalachians.
On Thursday August 18, 2016, an array of farmers, chefs, and food producers will bring their stories to ASAP’s Local Food Experience at Highland Brewing Company in Asheville. The culinary traditions of our region will be ripe for the tasting as partners share small plates of fresh, seasonal fare crafted here in the mountains.
Savor Buxton Hall barbeque made with pastured meat from Vandele Farm on Cedar Creek. Taste trout from Sunburst Trout Farms and fresh cheese from Looking Glass Creamery. Then wash it down with a hand-crafted soda with local farm ingredients from Waynesville Soda Jerks and enjoy local chocolate for dessert.
The Local Food Experience goes beyond flavor. It’s also about connecting with the people who produce our food. Meet farmers like Walter Harrill from Imladris Farms and find out how he grows blueberries for his jam. He’ll also share his newest creation: smoked ketchup that’s perfect for a community cookout.
Family-friendly activities will keep the kids entertained, and a silent auction will feature everything from farm stays to winery tours.
Join us at ASAP’s Local Food Experience and share your own story. Growing Local will be there talking to folks about why they eat local. Find tickets and see a list of food producers at www.asapconnections.org
