Summer is the perfect time to explore farm to table food. There’s something for everyone—from elegant dinners at local farms to summer treats made by artisans who are inspired by the towers of produce at area farmers markets.
If you’re looking for a literal farm to table feast, Root Bottom Farm‘s annual farm dinner on August 5th features ingredients produced by Madison County farms, served family-style in their converted tobacco barn. Root Bottom is one of many local farms who are connecting with community through dinners and events.
Other groups host yearly fundraisers to support farmers markets and area non-profits, like the “McDowell County From Farm to Table” event on August 19th. Funds from the four-course dinner at the Historic Tailgate Market Shelter will be used to provide locally grown food to McDowell County residents in need.
If you’re looking to explore local food and farm connections, meet over a dozen chefs, artisan producers, and farming families as they prepare and serve samples of local dishes at ASAP’s Local Food Experience. Explore the flavors of the Southern Appalachians on August 24th at New Belgium Brewing Company in Asheville and get to know the people who produce our food.
There are dozens of local food and farming events that highlight the bounty of our region and strengthen ties between farmers, artisan food producers, and the community. Find more events this summer at ASAP’s online event calendar.
