Picture yourself standing in a field of flowers, surrounded by blooms grown by a local farmer. Feel the breeze as it whispers through the blueberry bushes. Imagine standing in the barnyard petting baby calves or watching cheese get made in the farm kitchen.
These are just a few ways to experience ASAP’s Farm Tour on June 25th and 26th, 2016.
The region’s farmers are getting ready to welcome the community to their farms. All you have to do is pick which ones to visit.
This month on Growing Local, we’ll bring you on an audio journey through a different region of the Farm Tour. Today we’ll explore Fairview, North Carolina. The drive from Asheville to Fairview is so quick and easy that it’s hard to believe this many farms are just down the road.
Start at Cane Creek Creamery—a new addition to the tour this year. Watch small batches of cheese being made and peer into the aging room to see wheels in progress. Pet the calves and relax with some freshly made ice cream.
Flying Cloud Farm is just a short drive away. Gather u-pick flowers or wander through their blueberry fields. Take home produce or cut flowers to enjoy all week and snap some photos for the farm tour scavenger hunt.
Wrap up the day at Hickory Nut Gap Farm, also in Fairview. Tour the grassfed beef pastures, meet baby chicks and goats in the barnyard, and have a sandwich or hot dog made from locally-raised meat at the farm store.
