Disaster Assistance

Like everyone in our region, we are still working to comprehend the damage and heartbreak brought by Hurricane Helene. We are thankful to report that all ASAP staff is safe, but many continue to lack basic services such as running water, power, and cell/internet services. Thank you for your patience.

If you have been impacted by Helene, contact your FSA office and Cooperative Extension agent to keep them informed of your damage. Contact information for these entities can be found in the “Production and Recovery Resources and TA” document below.

If you donate farm products to food relief efforts, keep track of associated products and costs. While this is not guaranteed, regional ag support agencies may offer compensation for donated farm product.

Resource Documents

ASAP is collaborating with other agricultural support agencies to build out the following resource lists. With limited cell and internet connection, there continue to be a lot of question marks. These lists will be updated on a near-daily basis, as resources and services continue to open up to farms in our region. If you know of resources, services, and/or market outlets that should be added to this list, please let us know

ASAP’s Appalachian Grown Farmer Immediate Needs Grant

This grant is intended to support farms with significant losses due to disasters. Farmers may apply for up to $500 to cover immediate needs and expenses towards cleaning, replanting, repairing, or other costs not covered through insurance or other programs that will allow the farm to quickly recover. Qualifying farms must be Appalachian Grown certified. Nonprofits are not eligible at this time.

Need for funding will be great among regional farms. This application will also allow us to better connect impacted farms with services being offered by our partner agencies. Additional funding may be available in the future.

You can help ASAP continue to support local farms by making a donation here.
