Fresh at Farmers Markets This Week

Attention last-minute Thanksgiving shoppers! Here’s what you need to know:
West Asheville Tailgate Market’s final tailgate of the season is tomorrow, November 22nd, from 2:30 until 5:30 pm. Find all the produce, meats, cheeses, and baked goods you’ll need for your big meal, as well as holiday baskets chock-full of goodies from market vendors.
Both the Wednesday Co-op Tailgate Market next to the French Broad Food Co-op and the Montford Farmers Market are open Wednesday, the 23rd, from 2 to 6 pm with an abundance of produce, meats, and cheeses, along with flowers and wreaths for your tablescape. It’s the last full market of the season for the Wednesday Co-op Tailgate (some vendors will remain through December), and it’s the final market for Montford before the site becomes home to the 9th Annual Holiday Bazaar, December 3, 10, and 17.

The White Horse Farmers Market will also be there on the 23rd for your eleventh-hour needs; it’s held every Wednesday through December 28 at White Horse Black Mountain from 3 until 6 pm. Find meats, seafood, cheeses, vegan baked goods…you name it.
Come Saturday, it’s gifts galore! Of course, weekend markets will still have late-season fruits and veggies, meats, dairy, honey and sorghum, breads, and sweet treats. But, in honor of the official start to the holiday shopping season, there will be lots of craft vendors, too.
At Asheville City Market, which resumes Saturday after being closed for the Asheville Holiday Parade, look for vendors like Fuzzy Leaf Felting. They transform wool from local fiber producers Wellspring Farm into hats, jewelry, and accessories. They even create felt-covered soaps, unique gifts that act as loofahs to soothe dry winter skin.
Nearby at North Asheville Tailgate Market, look for vendors like Cache Bags. Owner Daniele Wickel creates totes and hats along with purses that transform into backpacks—great for bike-riding giftees.
New artisans join the regular roster of Weaverville Tailgate Market vendors for special holiday markets November 30 and December 7, 14, and 21 from 2-6 pm inside the Weaverville Community Center near Lake Louise. Saturdays at the Historic Marion Tailgate Market are now fall craft markets, through December 20. And the Madison County Farmers & Artisans Market will run special holiday events with soaps, jewelry, quilts, and more every Saturday through December 17 at Fiddlestix in Mars Hill.
Asheville City Market South in Biltmore Park Town Square will hold its final market next Wednesday, November 30. For special holiday tailgate markets times, locations, and final dates click HERE.
