Fresh at Farmers Markets This Week

This week area farmers tailgate markets are ripe with apples, honey, and many other delicious fall finds!
Not all apples are created equal, nor do they arrive at the same time. Some of the favorite apple varieties don’t appear until later in the season. This week, Creasman Farms (River Arts District Farmers Market, Asheville City Market, and Black Mountain Tailgate Market) had Pink Lady and Arkansas Black apples.
In addition to fresh apples, vendors have lovely apple products, including apple butter from Imladris Farm (North Asheville Tailgate Market), and apple ginger cider jelly from Mountain Man Preserves (Asheville City Market, Asheville City Market – South, and West Asheville Tailgate Market). The apple cider used in the jelly is sourced from, and for sale to all, from fellow market vendor, McConnell Farms (Asheville City Market, Asheville City Market – South, and North Asheville Tailgate Market).
Apples and honey are known for how well they accompany one another. Swarm Apiary (a new vendor at Asheville City Market) and Sweet Betty’s Bees (Madison County Farmers Market) have sweet, delectable honey for sale now. Many folks sell out of honey towards the end of the year, so stock up while it’s available.
Cauliflower is making its way back to market after being gone all summer, and some of the first reports of it are from Blue Meadow Farm (Asheville City Market, West Asheville Tailgate Market, Asheville City Market – South, and Black Mountain Tailgate Market) and Paper Crane Farm (West Asheville Tailgate Market, Asheville City Market).
More season’s closings are on the horizon: Black Mountain Tailgate Market will close on October 25, and Yancey County Farmers Market will have its final week outdoors. The following weekend (November 1) the Yancey County Farmers market will move into the Garden Deli with news hours (9 am to 1 pm) until December 20. Next Wednesday, October 29, will be the last day for Asheville City Market – South, and the last day outdoors for Weaverville Tailgate Market. The Weaverville Tailgate Market will return for a holiday market on November 26. For more information see our full list of market closings.
