Need a cure for the winter blues—whether you’ve got a cold or the flu or just wish the sun would come out a bit more? Holiday farmers tailgate markets have got you covered!
Look for lots of options from farm vendors to soothe dry skin, particularly hands. After all, whose hands work harder than farmers’?! Farmer Liz’s Hand Salve has been spotted from Thatchmore Farm at the Holiday Bazaar at the site of North Asheville Tailgate Market. And, Spinning Spider Creamery (Asheville City Market, Holiday Bazaar) offers thick and rich Koko Cream, a goat milk lotion. Of course, they’ve got lots of cheese to offer, too, including holiday party-perfect marinated feta.
Visit herb vendors like Red Moon Herbs at Asheville City Market (ACM) for tinctures to keep colds and the flu at bay. Ease sore muscles with Faerie Made’s Arnicaahhhh! mineral soak, found at ACM and the Holiday Bazaar.
What’s better for staying healthy than eating fresh fruits and veggies? Look for nutrient-rich carrots and sweet potatoes now. Speaking of power-packed orange produce, also look for several varieties of winter squash, including the unique and long-lasting Seminole pumpkin from Fungal Jungle at ACM. Even keep your eyes peeled for Upper Ground Sweet Potatoes, which are actually winter squashes, from Wildwood Herbal at ACM. Snag turnips and fresh herbs as well.
For a pick-me-up for yourself, get great holiday décor—from handmade wreaths to sunny flowers and succulents in stockings from vendors like Fisher Branch Farm at ACM. Spirit-lifting gifts still abound for friends and family members. In fact, more gift boxes are available, including packages of cured meats, apple butter, and more from Hickory Nut Gap Farm (ACM, Holiday Bazaar). Even consider market gift certificates. Many tailgates sell them; they’re a new offering for Jackson County Farmers Market this year.
