Fresh at (Winter) Farmers Markets This Week

March may be the final month for most indoor winter tailgate markets, but don’t expect them to slow down until they have to. Diane Saccone with the Neighborhood Y at Woodfin Winter Tailgate Market shares that this Saturday, March 2, will actually be one of the busiest market days so far—and a busy day for the market’s neighbors, too!

Ma Belle France and Vasanto (handmade felt hats) will return as vendors; also find Vasanto at Asheville City Market downtown. John’s Berry Patch will offer fresh walnuts, herbs, and plant starts. Sunset Valley Farm will bring salad dressings, jams, vinegars, and more. And Ardfield Farm will return with pestos and raw granola. Farm & Sparrow also offers granola at the market, pictured above.
What’s more, everyone who joins the Y this Saturday will be exempt from paying a joining fee. And, Livi’s Pantry will celebrate their grand opening during market, with samples from local food vendors, music, and prizes. In other words, it’s a Reynolds Mountain block party!
Asheville City Market downtown will continue indoors throughout the month of March with an increased offering of veggies, along with meats, cheeses, breads, eggs, honey, artisan craft items, and more. Asheville City Market South, however, has closed up shop for the rest of winter. They’ll reopen outdoors on the mall at Biltmore Park Town Square beginning April 3.
The Winter Sun Farms CSA is also winding down but ending strong. They’ll continue winter tailgates associated with their final CSA pickups in the coming weeks: Tuesday March 5, 4-6 pm, at the Flat Rock Tailgate Market; Wednesday March 13, 9 am-1 pm and 4-7 pm, at Blue Ridge Food Ventures on the A-B Tech Enka campus; and Saturday March 16, 10 am-1 pm, at the winter Grow Down Home Farmers Market in Black Mountain. Not a Winter Sun Farms subscriber? You can still shop the markets + sign up for next year!
