Tips for Shopping at the Market
Where to find the market information booth: We are at the center of the market in front of the Thomas Wolfe Center. Look for our “Market Information” banner. This is where you can purchase market tokens and market staff can answer questions.
Bring your own bag. It’s easiest to carry your purchases with a reusable tote bag. Most vendors will have plastic produce bags available. If you forget your shopping bag, visit the market information booth to purchase one.
You can use cash, card, or SNAP/EBT. Most vendors accept credit/debit as well as cash. If they don’t, or if you prefer, you can go to the market information booth and purchase tokens using credit or debit. Market tokens come in increments of $5 and spend like cash. Vendors will give you your change in cash. Using tokens can help reduce credit card fees for vendors. Market tokens do not expire and can be used on future visits.
Double SNAP for Fruits and Vegetables
Get Double SNAP for Fruits and Vegetable at Asheville City Market. Visit the market information book to swipe your EBT card for any amount, then receive that amount in SNAP tokens, in $1 increments. In addition, get an additional match, up to $20, in Farm Fresh Bucks. SNAP tokens may be used for SNAP-eligible items with any vendor. Farm Fresh Bucks may be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Learn more about SNAP at farmers markets.
Farm Fresh Produce Prescription
With ASAP’s Farm Fresh Produce Prescription, participating healthcare providers can prescribe patients more fresh fruits and vegetables to help treat or prevent diet-related illness. Patients redeem their prescription, from $20-60 each week, for Farm Fresh Bucks, which can be spent on fruits and vegetables at a local farmers market. Find out more about the Farm Fresh Produce Prescription, including participating farmers markets and healthcare providers.

About Asheville City Market
ASAP opened Asheville City Market in 2008 to provide more opportunities for farmers, particularly those unable to access existing market options. The market also serves as a learning lab for ASAP to pilot new programs that can be replicated at other markets. The market opened on Charlotte Street before moving to North Market Street in 2017. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the market operated as ASAP Farmers Market on A-B Tech’s campus. We returned downtown at the start of the 2022 season.
Vendors
Asheville City Market is a producer-only market, which means that all farm vendors grow or raise the products they are selling themselves. For non-farm vendors (such as prepared food, seafood, coffee), preference is given to products and foods prepared or processed locally or made with locally sourced ingredients.
The list below reflects vendors for the entire season, but not all will attend market each week. Sign up for the Asheville City Market e-newsletter to see the weekly vendor schedule.
