2014 is almost over and next week is your last chance to shop at area farmers tailgate markets before the new year. Novel, exquisitely beautiful, and often delicious discoveries are abundant! There is so much to explore at this time of the year: winter produce, meats, cheeses, cookies, artwork, jewelry and more.
North Asheville Tailgate Market is full of delights. Full Sun Farm has adorable giftwrapped mini popcorn on the cob. Imladris Farm has elegant boxes of jams, and Foothills Farm & Butchery has a meat truck with many wonderful treats to choose from.
There is plenty of produce to be found this time of year. Winter squash, root vegetables, greens, and herbs are the stars of late fall and early winter. At North Asheville Tailgate Market Full Sun Farm, Flying Cloud Farm, and Gaining Ground Farm all have colorful and tasty produce for sale. Ivy Creek Family Farm has many veggies, as well as bags of dried beans (great to cook or give as a gift) and also some Shiitakes.
At Asheville City Market, Blue Meadow Farm, New Moon Herbs Farm, Kay Farm, Jake’s Farm, Green Toe Ground Farm, Blue Ribbon and other vendors have delicious fresh produce. New Moon Herbs also has dried red peppers that are wonderful for winter stews and soups.
Madison County Farmers Market has some literally sweet gifts, like apple butter and sorghum molasses from Mackey Farms, and coffee from Notorious Coffee. While you shop, you can eat a lovely and complimentary lunch made with ingredients and help from multiple market vendors.
As the holidays approach, the markets will have a hiatus for two weeks. This week, December 20, markets will be open. The weeks of December 27 and January 3, all markets will be closed. Winter markets open January 10 around the region. See the full list of winter tailgate markets.
