Why Buy Local?

Over the past 20 years, Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) has worked in Western North Carolina (WNC) to build a thriving local food economy with an intent of strengthening farm businesses, supporting the health of the population, and building thriving communities. This new report continues to add to the knowledge of the region on consumer food shopping perspectives. The most recent survey was fielded online from April to October 2024 among local adults and yielded 553 responses with 72 percent of participants having lived in WNC for more than 5 years.
