Finally, almost all of the summer’s favorite fruits can be found at area farmers tailgate markets. July is the height, the heart, and the heat of the growing season, bringing with it so much beautiful abundance.
With the return of Creasman Farms (Asheville City Market, Black Mountain Tailgate Market, and River Arts District Farmers Market), peaches and plums have made their debut. Yellow and white peaches, and yellow and purple plums can all be found at their gingham-lined tables. Stone fruit is one of the hallmarks of the height of summer; flavorful, juicy, crisp, and irresistible!
Bear Necessities Farm (Asheville City Market and West Asheville Tailgate Market) has a late-growing variety of strawberries that are still producing. It’s so exciting to have strawberries this far into the summer! Lewis, of Bear Necessities Farm, plans to have strawberries of different varieties growing through the season, so stay tuned!
Meadow Cove Farm (West Asheville Tailgate Market) have a small amount of wine berries and Root Bottom Farm (also at West Asheville Tailgate Market) have mixed red raspberries and blackberries. Get there early if you want to scoop up these gems!
Amidst all of these new arrivals, other fruits abound as well, including blackberries and blueberries which can be found from multiple farmers at most of the area markets.
Vegetables are not to be forgotten among all this talk of fruit; tomatoes, eggplant, okra, beans, squash, potatoes, cabbage, beets, carrots, greens, and more can all be found now on farmers’ tables.
