Love is in the air at winter tailgate markets! In fact, a new Valentine’s market has sprung up just for the February fete. We’re talking about the Historic Marion Tailgate’s Valentine Craft Market on Saturday, February 9, and Tuesday, February 12. Expect handcrafted gift items like jewelry and soap along with sweet and savory baked goods for your sweetie (say that five times fast!).
At the Neighborhood Y at Woodfin Winter Tailgate Market Saturday, look for special Valentine’s Day boxes from AshevilleGoods.com stuffed with everything chocolate. If you or your Valentine are veggie lovers, Jake’s Farm (also find Jake’s at Asheville City Market downtown) will likely have celery again, and Bee Tree Farm reports they’ll definitely have sweet potatoes. Rio Bertolini’s shares they’ve been getting requests for gluten-free gnocchi, so they’ll make and bring it this weekend. Visit vendors like Wild Mountain Apiaries, Green Mountain Maple, and Silvermoon Chocolate—along with non-food vendors—for great gifts. At Asheville City Market downtown, the Chocolate Lab is sure to have V-day treats.
Jackson County Farmers Market will hold bookbinding, painting, and spinning craft demonstrations this Saturday, February 9. Kids and adults alike can also make Valentine’s Day clay hearts. Note: the market’s winter garden workshop, set for last weekend, was cancelled due to snow and will be rescheduled soon. For more information, contact Jenny McPherson at 828-631-3033 or visit their Facebook page or website.
And don’t forget this Saturday’s Grow Down Home Farmers Market in conjunction with the Black Mountain Winter Sun Farms CSA delivery; the market will be held at Grow Down Home Kitchen, 105 Richardson Blvd., from 10 am until 1 pm. Expect local produce, fresh seafood from the Outer Banks, local meats, soaps, pickles, pottery and lots more. Mark your calendars now for one more Grow Down Home market on March 9.
