Watermelon with yellow flesh that is superbly juicy and flavorful, as well as cantaloupe, can be found from Ten Mile Farm at Asheville City Market and the River Arts District Farmers Market. Watermelon are the perfect thirst quenchers and sweet tooth satisfiers to beat the sweltering afternoon heat!
Another new item reported at markets: Chinese Red Noodle Beans from Her Heartbeat Farm at the Transylvania Farmers Market. One suggested way to prepare these alluring looking veggie: stir-fry with garlic and ginger. Find garlic from Paper Crane Farm at Asheville City Market and West Asheville Tailgate Market, and ginger McConnell Farms (Asheville City Market, West Asheville Tailgate Market, and North Asheville Tailgate Market).
Some weekly produce not to be missed: sweet corn from McConnell Farms, and mushrooms! Try Shiitake mushrooms from Ivy Creek Family Farm at North Asheville Tailgate Market and Weaverville Tailgate Market. Asheville Fungi (West Asheville Tailgate Market and Asheville City Market) has a few types of mushrooms including Chanterelles, Milky Caps, Lion’s Mane, and Oyster.
