Fresh at [Winter] Farmers Markets This week

Winter farmers tailgate markets are going strong with farm-fresh local food offerings every week. What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, than by shopping for or with loved ones at a winter tailgate market! Markets have great gift ideas such as chocolates, baked goods, and jewelry, as well as plenty of produce, including lettuces and greens, potatoes, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, microgreens, and turnips. And don’t forget to pick up local meats, cheeses, eggs, and plenty more!
Over at the YMCA Indoor Winter Tailgate Market, Green Rows Hydro-Farm is selling beautiful hydroponic Romaine and Bibb lettuces. Be sure to grab turnips and black walnuts from John’s Berry Patch. There are plenty of produce offerings courtesy of New Moon Herbs Farm, including sweet Italian onions, lettuce, butternut squash, fresh turmeric, and dried red chilis. Wake Robin Farm Breads can round out your shopping with bagels, semolina and rye loaves, and much more.
Asheville City Market continues to have lines out the door before the market opens. One main attraction is fresh, local produce from Jake’s Farm, who has lemongrass, radishes, greens, and more. Delectable Delights is selling a raspberry white chocolate bundt cake that will stop you in your tracks. What else will lure you to the market? Try Spinning Spider Creamery’s Montford Jack, among many cheeses. The Montford Jack is Spinning Spider’s nod toward Monterey Jack, which is is smooth and supple and has wonderful melting capabilities.
The Jackson County Farmers Market continues to meet each Saturday through the winter months, 10 am-1 pm at the Community Table in downtown Sylva. This Saturday, February 14, the market will be having their monthly Farmers Market Fundraising Feast of Brownies topped with locally sourced raspberry sauce. Market-goers can also purchase greens, honey, eggs, herbal remedies, soaps, baked goods, coffee, pottery, and more.
