The first of the outdoor farmers tailgate markets are springing up left and right! With these markets, we can reconnect with community members we might not have seen all winter, find delectable farm fresh foods, and encounter beautiful flowers, crafts, plant starts, and more!
North Asheville Tailgate Market opened this past week, welcomed with wonderful weather and so much excitement from vendors and market-goers, alike! Farmers brought with them stored root vegetables such as carrots and turnips from Gaining Ground Farm, potatoes from Ivy Creek Family Farm, and sweet potatoes from Mountain Harvest Organics. Also at North Asheville Tailgate Market were fresh mushrooms. Ivy Creek Family Farm had shiitakes and Myco-Gardens had oyster mushrooms.
There are beautiful crafts available at both Asheville City Market and North Asheville Tailgate Market: pottery, sculptures, jewelry, and other wonderful items are great to explore with friends and family while at market, and make great gifts!
Marshall’s Sunday Island Market opened this past week, April 12. If you’ve never been, Blannahassett Island in Marshall is beautiful, historic, and worth the trip. Not to mention the quaint market each week! The French Broad Food Co-op Wednesday Tailgate Market also opened this past week, on April 15.
Ever wondered what it feels like to be a farmer riding on a tractor? Swing by Asheville City Market Saturday April 18, for Yanmar America’s display and climb aboard some tractors!
