Fresh at Farmers Markets This Week

More and more produce is popping up at your local farmers tailgate markets!

The Oakley Farmers Market opened this past Thursday, and shoppers could find a wide variety of produce and products from over fifteen vendors! Becki’s Bounty offered an assortment of tomato starts, as well as fresh seafood from the Outer Banks. Gladheart Farm brought green drink (fresh veggie juice), tomato and herb starts, and a lot of greens! Highlander Farm provided grassfed lamb, chicken, and eggs, and Adelbert Farm had a great selection of organic eggs, lettuce, kale, herb starts, nettles, and even a stir fry mix. The Canton Thursday Farmers Market and More also opened this past Thursday, and it was a rousing success! Two Trees Farm was there offering organic heirloom garden starts, including hot and sweet peppers, and tomatoes. Shady Brooke Farms brought pastured eggs, and Lenoir’s Creek Beef and Bakery contributed grassfed beef and lamb. You could also find a variety of pork including hot and mild sausage, chorizo, bacon, and bratwurst from Worley Farm. Ten Acre Garden offered spring onions and Bibb lettuce, while Mountain Man Preserves featured strawberry rhubarb with local Henderson County rhubarb!
The Madison County Farmers & Artisans Markets had its typically impressive list of more than fifteen vendors this past Saturday. Meadow Cove Farm, Root Bottom Farm, Leaning Willow Farm, and Sunset Valley Farm were just a few of the vendors offering fresh produce. Fresh Atlantic Seafood offered shrimp, scallops, and fish! Be sure to also check out Three Graces Dairy for their goat cheeses, and Bee Tree Farm for homemade pestos and hot sauces. In addition to their usual selection of meats, come see Mackey Farms for a new, very cool product: strawberry ice cream!
Craving some sweets? The Jackson County Farmers Market is holding a Strawberry Shortcake Fundraiser at Bridge Park this Saturday, May 17th from 10 am to noon. Shelton Family Farm and Backwoods Bakery & Cakeworks are sponsoring the event, and all proceeds will go toward a Farmers Market Storage Shed. The Jackson County Farmers Market accepts SNAP/EBT, credit, and debit cards.
